There has been a lot of talk regardingThe Boysspinoff,Gen V, since it was first announced in September 2020, at that point under the nameThe Boys Presents: Varsity. Tidbits had slowly drifted out, but few details were confirmed. Development delays meant production took longer than expected, forcing some cast members to move on to new projects. The recasting process caused additional delays. Eventually, the official series' official name was released on July 26, 2025, along with new cast introductions via Twitter.
Gen Vis the second spinoff series fromThe Boys, preceded by the animated anthologyDiabolical. Now, the time has finally come with official details being released and production underway for the much-anticipated spinoff to Amazon Studio’s hit anti-superhero show based on the popular comic book series written by Garth Ennis and illustrated by Darick Robertson. Michele Fazekas and Tara Butters will serve as showrunners while also executive producing withThe Boysshowrunner Eric Kripke, Seth Rogen, Evan Goldberg, James Weaver, Neal H. Moritz, Ori Marmur, Pavun Shetty, and show creator Craig Rosenberg.

The show is thought to be set concurrently with season four ofThe Boys, and needless to say,Gen Vhas some very big shoes to fill if it wants to match the success of its parent show, wasthe most streamed superhero series in 2022. The good news is boththe final Redband trailerand early reviews point to the show having the same level of over-the-top violence, gore, and superhero satire asThe Boys. With the premiere of the first episode just days away, let’s take a look at what is known so far aboutGen V.
Update June 16, 2025: WithGen Vabout to premiere, this article has been updated with even more information regarding the upcoming spin-off.

Gen V: The Plot
According toGen V’sofficial synopsis:
“Gen V is set at America’s only college exclusively for superheroes, run by Vought International. irreverent, R-rated series that explores the lives of hormonal, competitive Supes as they put their physical, sexual, and moral boundaries to the test, competing for the best contracts in the best cities. It’s part college show, part Hunger Games — with all the heart, satire, and raunch of The Boys.”
The school’s name will be Godolkin University School of Crimefighting, presumed to benamed after John Godolkin, a character fromThe Boyscomic book world who is a very dark version of Professor Xavier of theX-Menseries. Indeed, the series as a whole is intended to be a satire of the X-men who, famously, also dwell in a school when they aren’t out and about fighting for mutant kind. However, it’s safe to say that the series won’t just be a pastiche of the Marvel property but instead will use that as a springboard to tell far more complex and nuanced stories.

Though it’s fair to assume thatGen Vwill share some overlap with its parent show, we can expect it to stand on its own, asThe Boys' showrunner, Eric Kripke, explains:
“Just like Mork & Mindy separated from Happy Days — which is an insane and true fact – our spinoff will exist in the Vought Cinematic Universe yet have its very own tone and style. It’s our bid for a college show with an ensemble of fascinating, complicated and at times deadly Young Supes. Michele and Tara are rocking geniuses, we’re happy to have them steer this ship, and grateful to Sony and Amazon for the opportunity. We love this show and can not wait to see it. Also, Baywatch Nights separated from Baywatch, and it had vampires. Vampires! “
Kripke goes on to tease:
“There’s definitely crossover, and we’re doing our best to design a universe that sees some of the issues and storylines in Season 3 hand off to the first season in Varsity. Like there’s a presidential campaign happening in the background of that season, and there’s certain things that are happening at that school that are both in reaction to Season 3 of The Boys. There’s Soldier Boy, etcetera, but also some new storylines that are happening in that season of the spinoff that we have to pick up and take into Season 4 of the show.”
