The Crowded Roomis Apple TV+’s new series starring Tom Holland. The show is set to premiere in June and will follow Holland’s character, Danny Sullivan, as his life twists and turns, bringing him to a shooting in New York. The series will take place in the 1970s and be one of Tom Holland’s more dramatic roles. Created byOscar winner Akiva Goldsman(A Beautiful Mind),The Crowded Roomis a series that examines the harsh reality of personal experience and the dangers of having an unreliable narrator.
The Crowded Roomalso features Amanda Seyfried, who will play a detective opposite Holland, trying to uncover the story of his mysterious past. Seyfried will star alongside several other big-name members of an ensemble cast. Emmy Rossum (Shameless, Mystic River) will appear along with Holland’s Marvel alum Sasha Lane (Loki).The Crowded Room, along with being packed with stars, also appears to be one of those intense stories that you won’t want to miss. The Crowded Room: The Plot
The Crowded Roombegins in 1979 when a man named Danny Sullivan found himself in the middle of a shooting in New York. He is arrested due to his involvement in the shooting and is then held by the police. The story takes place over the course of several interviews with Danny. While the curious detective Rya Goodwin attempts to dive deeper into why Danny was there on that day, she finds herself asking him questions that lead to revealing the story of his life. As Rya plumbs deeper and deeper into the question of Danny’s mysterious past, the audience discovers the events that shaped him and find out just what kind of man Danny is. The stories come together following twists and turns that eventually lead Danny to a life-altering revelation.

It sounds like one of those stories told entirely from the perspective of a narrator that we’re not sure we can trust. Like Kevin Spacey becameKeyser Söze inThe Usual Suspects, this may be another tale where we will find ourselves at the mercy of a singular storyteller. As Danny Sullivan begins to illustrate his own life, we’ll learn more about him and why he took part in the inciting incident which caused his arrest. It will be a story where we’ll be given a tangled ball of yarn at the beginning and then slowly unravel it as the series goes on. In the style of Akira Kurosawa’sRashomon, we know one tale can be told many times, and we can get a different story each time. We’ll have to wait to find out exactly who Danny Sullivan is and how much we can trust him.

As Akiva Goldsman gives us the mysterious character of Danny Sullivan, we should remember he has been known for his intriguing stories in the past. He is best known for writing the screenplay forA Beautiful Mind,Cinderella Man, andThe Da Vinci Code. Now he gets another chance at an entirelyoriginal work inThe Crowded Room. While he’s been doing a lot of work on the Star Trek IP in the past few years, this is the first completely original work we’ve seen from the creator in a while. And it’s in a genre and style in which Goldsman normally gives us his best work.
He has assembled an all-star cast to tell his story.Tom Holland is the starof the series, playing the main role of Danny Sullivan. Holland is best known for his role as Spider-Man in the Marvel Cinematic Universe but also starred as Arvin inThe Devil All the Timeand had the title role in the filmCherry. Other than that, he was most recently Nathan Drake in the film adaptation of the video gameUncharted.
