The Flashsolo movie is still alive, yet the team trying to bring the Scarlet Speedster to the big screen behind the scenes is in for yet another huge shake-up. We now have word thatITdirector Andy Muschietti is in talks to helm the long-gestating DC adaptation for Warner Bros. What’s more, we also have a new potential writer for the project in the form of Christina Hodson, who recently penned last year’sBumblebee. One of the only things that doesn’t seem to be changing, for the time being, is Ezra Miller, who is still attached to star.
According to a new report, bothAndres Muschiettiand Christina Hodson are circling the project as a new package deal. The offers haven’t been made just yet, but things are said to be trending in the right direction. Prior to this turn of events,Game Nightdirecting duo John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein spent time developing the troubled project. They penned a screenplay and were set to direct. Their vision, which was reportedly more lighthearted, clashed with star Ezra Miller. They’ve since moved on to other things, paving the way for Muschietti to possibly take over in the director’s chair.
This movie has had more than its fair share of troubles behind the scenes.Ezra Miller actually wound up penning his own scriptwith comic book legend Grant Morrison that was turned into the studio several months ago. Warner Bros. didn’t decide that was the right direction to go with the movie. Though, they did determine it was best to keep Miller on board. Miller originated the role inBatman v Superman: Dawn of Justicebefore appearing in a more significant capacity inJustice League.
Andy Muschietti, for his part, comes from the horror world, having helmed movies such asMama. However, it wasITthat really put him on the map, as the Stephen King adaptation went on to gross $700 million worldwide, while also earning rave reviews. Muschietti also directed the follow-up,IT Chapter Two, which hits theaters this September. Should the deal make, Andy Muschietti would become just the latest horror director to tackle a DC movie. James Wan (The Conjuring) helmedAquaman, which went on to gross more than $1 billion worldwide, whileShazamwas directed by David F. Sandberg (Annabelle: Creation).
As forChristina Hodson, she’s become one of the hottest screenwriters in Hollywood. Aside fromBumblebee, which helped bail out theTransformersfranchise (critically speaking), she also wrote the upcoming Harley Quin spin-offBirds of Prey, which hits theaters in February 2020. Hodson is also penning theBatgirlsolo movie. Clearly, Warner Bros. likes what she’s been able to do in the DC universe already. Previously, Seth Grahame-Smith (who actually served as a producer onIT), was attached to directThe Flash. Rick Famuyiwa (Dope) also spent time on the project. We’ll be sure to keep you posted as any further information is made available. This news was first reported byThe Hollywood Reporter.
