After a near-two year wait,The Night Agentis back onNetflixand already shooting up a storm with critics. The original season was released in May 2023, and the political action thriller took justa few weeks to become one of Netflix’s biggest shows, although it did not completely impress with its 74% Tomatometer score. This time around, creator Shawn Ryan has upped the ante, and it seems the lengthy wait has proven to be worth it.
The Night Agentis based on the Matthew Quirk novel of the same name, andfocuses on FBI agent Peter Sutherland, played by Gabriel Basso, who is confined to the basement of the White House manning a phone that never rings. However, when he does get a call one night, he finds himself being thown into a dark and dangerous conspiracy that goes all the way to the Oval Office. Season 2 finds Peter “fully immersed in the mysterious world of Night Action, a top-secret organization rife with lethal threats. As Peter says, the dangers ahead include everything from a possible mole in Night Action to experimental weapons in the wrong hands — and he can’t trust anyone in these dire new circumstances.”
When Season 1 concluded, Ryan revealed that if Season 2 came around, then he would love to look at expanding the show’s scope and scale, with new locations, and new challenges for Peter. It seems that his wish was granted, and now the rewards are there to be reaped, and with Season 3 already green-lit, we can expect to dive deeper into Peter’s world again in the future.

Audiences are yet to have their say on the new season ofThe Night Agent, but having scored (so far) unanimous praise from critics, it would be hard to imagine the action series being anything other than a runaway success for Netflix, and will duly take its place at the top of the streamer’s chart later today.
