Massoud’s casting was previously announced at a time when he had said he was struggling to get new movie roles afterAladdin. While Disney’s live-action remake did a phenomenal job in movie theaters with Massoud in the lead, the actor said that thefollowing role offers weren’t as quick to comeas he’d thought.

“I want people to know that it’s not always dandelions and roses when you’re doing something like Aladdin,” Massoud told the Daily Beast in 2019. “‘He must have made millions. He must be getting all these offers.’ It’s none of those things. I haven’t had a single audition sinceAladdincame out.”

He added, “It’s wild to a lot of people. People have these ideas in their head. It’s like, I’m sitting here being like, okay,Aladdinjust hit $1 billion - can I at least get an audition? Like I’m not expecting you to be like, ‘Here’s Batman.’ But can I just get in the room?… Can you just give me a chance?”

There are also reports ofAladdingetting a sequel, so Massoud will likely be reprising that role as well, and even if he’s looking to play other characters, that Disney money certainly won’t hurt. He has also teased that he’d be up for playing Nightwing in the DCEU, despite his Batman obsession. Time will tell if that happens, but it’sa dream role for Massoud.

“I’ve been obsessed with Batman, but I think Batman’s kind of… it’s been done a lot now and it’s been done by some fantastic actors,” he detailed to Screen Rant. “I don’t think I can top them in that way, but Nightwing just has a really interesting story [that] hasn’t been done before, he’s a little bit younger. So yeah, he’s a character I’ve just always been drawn to.”

Laura Marano, one of the stars of the Disney seriesAustin & Ally, has also appeared in shows likeWithout a Trace,Back to You, andGirl Meets World. She’s also appeared in recent movies likeA Cinderella Story: Christmas Wish,The Night House, andThe War with Grandpa.
