Fans ofThe Walking Deadbelieved that the zombie horror series had ran its course by the time Season 11 concluded, but its most recent spinoffs managed to resurrect interest in the franchise.Dead City, Daryl Dixon, andThe Ones Who Livecontinued the individual stories of some ofThe Walking Dead’s key characters, and while Negan and Maggie seriesDead Cityand the self-titledDaryl Dixonseries have had multiple seasons, Andrew Lincoln and Danai Gurira’s return inThe Ones Who Liveseems destined to be a one-and-done spinoff.
While there have been several whispers of more to come from Rick and Michonne, it seems that if this does happen it will probably not be in their own Season 2. As perThe Direct, long-term producer Scott M. Gimple gave a short response to the question of whetherThe Ones Who Livewill be getting news of a Season 2 renewal at any point. For those longing to see more of Rick Grimes, it is sadly a disappointing outlook. Speaking on the red carpet at Multicon, the franchise’s Chief Content Officer said:
I mean the plan was to keep it limited. Not necessarily never to see those characters again, but to keep it limited. But I always say, you never know.

It took over a decade for the ultimate mystery of ‘The Walking Dead’ franchise to be solved.
However, he did offer a little hope that we have not quite seen the last of Rick and Michonne, hinting that there are other stories to be told, and it is always hard to completely rule anything out.
“There’s so many… I’ve been very careful to not say, ‘Oh, that’ll never happen,’ because it does. So you know, there are possibilities. And there’s possibilities of all sorts of strange iterations of shows with those characters and with other characters. So you know I think it’s entirely possible.”
The Ones Who Livereally does not need a second season, as the ending for Rick and Michonne is one that many fans agreed was the perfect conclusion to their story. While the original plan was to have three movies, the series probably delivered a much better final product and was the right call. Now it seems that Gimple is making another and ending the story right there.
However, the rest of theWalking Deaduniverse is still out there, and that means we have not seen the last of those shambling flesh-eaters just yet. This year,Dead Citywill continue the tumultuous journey of Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) and Maggie (Lauren Cohan) as their fight for survival in New York City. The first season of the spinoff was a huge success, mainly thanks to the popularity of its two lead characters, andSeason 2 is expected to hit screens on July 18, 2025.
Following that,Daryl Dixonwill release its third season. After reuniting the titular character with Carol in Season 2, their adventure in Europe is set to leave France behind and switch location to Spain. While there is little known about what will befall them in the new episodes, fans took incredibly well to the spinoffs first two seasons, and that looks likely to continue in Season 3.
Outside of this, Gimple has teased that there are a lot more plans being worked on fornew additions toThe Walking Deadfranchise. This is hardly surprising considering its position as one of ACM’s most successful IPs, even after more than a decade on screens. Along with an order forMore Tales of the Walking Dead, the anthology series that aired its first season in 2023, Gimple last year teased that there are “imminent and long-term dreams” being worked on, and that “something very different” is being “cooked up” in another part of theWalking Deadworld.
