Back in November, as pre-production work onGuardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2was under way, directorJames Gunnshot down a rumor that Marvel Comics character Mar-Vell was in fact Star-Lord’s (Chris Pratt) father, revealing in a statement that he would no longer comment on any rumors swirling around his sequel. With production wrapping up within the next few weeks, it seems the director may be re-thinking this stance, as he recently shot down a rumor he essentially started himself. The director took to social media this weekend to shoot down reports that Thor (Chris Hemsworth) will be featured inGuardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2.
The rumor started yesterday when the director posted a photo of himself wieldingThor’s mighty hammer Mjolnir, which many thought to be a clue thatThorhimself would be featured in the movie. Earlier today, the filmmaker clarified why he took the photo onFacebook, revealing that the “props guy” happened to have Mjolnir laying around. Here’s what the director had to say in his brief statement.
“This is actually a nice little collection of my and the cast’s behind-the-scenes glimpses at Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. (And, no, Thor isn’t in Vol. 2 - the props guy just happened to have it around and I decided to take a pic with it. Not sure if I’m able to lift it because I’m worthy or because I’m soulless like an elevator). Hope you all have a great weekend.”
Thorwill next be seen inThor: Ragnarok, where he will team up withMark Ruffalo’s Hulk on what has been described as a “cosmic road trip.” Given this story line, many thought that this could lead to Thor meeting the Guardians during this trip. It has been rumored thatCate Blanchett’s Hela teams up with Loki and banishes Thor fromAsgardand even destroys his hammer Mjolnir. Thor reportedly ends up on a gladiator planet where he’s forced to face the current champion in battle, Hulk.
James Gunnteased on Twitter a few days ago that there are only two weeks left of principal photography onGuardians of the Galaxy 2. With production winding down, it’s possible that fans may get their first look at this sequel during Marvel’s San Diego Comic Con presentation, but we don’t even know for sure if the studio will have an active presence at the convention, since they skipped it entirely last year. While we wait for more onGuardians 2, take a look atJames Gunn’s Facebook and Twitter posts below.
