‘The Dark Knight’ is not only the best superhero movie of the 21st century, but also Christopher Nolan’s highest-ranked film.
The latest re-release follows last year’s Batman Day celebration on September 21, when three movies —Batman,Batman: Mask of the Phantasm, andBatman Forever— hit theaters nationwide tohonor the character’s 85fth anniversary. As of this writing, it is unclear if this kind of Batman-a-thon will return in 2025, but Dolby’s one-night event should hold DC fans over until then. It is not only a special occasion for both of Burton’s superhero movies, but especiallyBatman Returns, which was the first feature film ever presented in Dolby Digital. A full-circle moment for the 1992 film, which used “the revolutionary audio technology that would become synonymous with ‘surround sound’ in cinema.”
