Oh,Tom Cruise… never change. The beloved action star is set to bring the long-runningMission: Impossiblefranchise to a close later this month withThe Final Reckoning. But, before Tom Cruise returns to movie theaters, he decided to climb on top of one. The actor recently appeared at a special event at the BFI in London, where he looked back on his incredible filmography and career so far. Not content with just talking about his past stunts, Tom Cruise decided to surprise the audience by climbing to the top of the BFI IMAX theater following the talk.
Footage of Tom Cruise’s new stunt was shared to X (formerly Twitter) by @tsureil, who attended the talk. Their X thread began with a shot from inside the BFI screening room, with chairs set out for Cruise and the host, along with the caption, “it’s happeninggggggg.” @tsureil posted shortly after the talk was over. But, instead of sharing their thoughts or reaction to the talk, they posted a video of Cruise standing atop the BFI IMAX building, which is across the street from where the talk took place in the BFI’s main building. “HELLO?????” read the caption to the video.

Tom Cruise Is Reportedly Breaking One of His Big Movie Traditions to Prevent ‘Mission: Impossible 8’ Flopping
Tom Cruise is about to pull out all the stops to make ‘Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning’ a success.
The user posted one more time, expressing their astonishment at Tom Cruise’s dedication to the stunt, which included a surprise wardrobe change. “We have literally no idea how he managed to get there and CHANGE CLOTHES this is an entirely separate building to where the talk was,” read the final post. On theTom Cruise Stunt’o’meter (patent pending),standing on top of a movie theater is relatively low on the scale — high-scoring stunts include scaling the Burj Khalifa and performing a HALO jump — but it was still an unexpected, albeit very on-brand, surprise for those in London at the time.

The ‘Mission: Impossible’ Franchise is Coming to an End
Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to not cry when the credits roll onMission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning. The upcoming film, which releases in theaters on May 23, is all-but confirmed to be the final movie in the long-running franchise. Brian De Palma kickstarted theMission: Impossiblecinematic franchise (adapted from the 1960s TV series of the same name) in 1996. Seven films later, and we’re nearly at the dramatic finale ofEthan Hunt’s globe-trotting missions.
ForMission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning,Tom Cruise performed three major stunts. The first, which has been widely publicized, involves the actor hanging off the wing of a small biplane as it performs barrel rolls. Cruise then one-upped that with an underwater stunt, the details of which haven’t been fully revealed yet. Finally, director Christopher McQuarrie told Empire Magazine earlier this year that the actor had performed a third, and even more dangerous, stunt for the final film. Details of the final stunt haven’t been revealed. “I truly want to puke thinking about the stress,” is all McQuarrie has teased of the third stunt.
