Showtime wrapped up its epic 18-episode run of newTwin Peaksepisodes last month, and it seems the show could be coming back for more. During a new interview, Mark Frost, who co-created the series with David Lynch, revealed that both are open to bringing fans anotherTwin Peaks season. Here’s what Mark Frost had to say below, about the possibility ofTwin PeaksSeason 4.
“I haven’t decided yet. I think it’s still an open question and it’s one that we’re looking at and one that I think Showtime is musing as well.”
David Lynch also told the crowd at the Belgrade Culture Center in Serbia, during an exhibition of his photographs, that he hadn’t exactly ruled out a fourth season of the hit series either, adding that it was too early to comment on the matter although he did say that one of the deciding factors of whether or not to make this season will be how long it takes to develop. Mark Frost, who is most responsible for creating the narrative and mythological world ofTwin Peaks, also revealed that he had the idea to launch thisTwin Peaks revivalway back in 2012. Here’s what he had to say below.
“The anchor (forTwin Peaks: The Return) and starting point came from the moment we revisited the last episode of the original show. Cooper’s dilemma of whenGood Coopertrapped Bad Cooper (both played by Kyle MacLachlan) out and that weirdly prescient line of the spirit of Laura’s whispering to Cooper, ‘I will see you again in 25 years. That was the springboard to the story and that is where I saw the opening to bring us back and that is what I proposed to David when we got back together in 2012 and said this is where we can pick up the thread.”
That started the four and a half year process of writing the newTwin Peaks 18-episode season, which was written and shot as one gigantic movie script, with the filmmakers cutting it into individual episodes in post-production. Given the massive commitment that goes into writing and producing the show, Mark Frost revealed that they’ll make their decision when the time is right, but there is no rush whatsoever.
It’s something you have to think long and hard about. We’ll make the decision when the time is right. There certainly is no sense of urgency about it."
