Way back in October 2014, originalUnderworlddirectorLen Wisemanrevealed that two different sequels to the hit vampires and werewolves franchise were being developed, along with a newTV series.Underworld 5started production back in October, withKate Beckinsalereturning as Selene, alongsideTheo JamesandTobias Menzies, but we haven’t heard any news about the TV series since that 2014 report. While promoting his new seriesLucifer, debuting Monday, January 25,Len Wisemanrevealed toColliderthat the TV show is still being developed, but it isn’t known when it may move forward.

“Yes, there’s been a lot of conversations and even development on what that series would be. It’s really appropriate for television, in terms of how those characters can really tie in, but also become something new. It’s really an attractive space. I don’t want to put a date on it because then that’s going to be printed and it might not happen in that timeframe, but it is a thought.”

Our original report from 2014 didn’t offer any specific details on theTV show’s plot, or ifKate Beckinsalewould even return as Serene. The series would most likely center on the seemingly never-ending war between the werewolves, i.e. Lycans, and the vampires, but it isn’t known at what point in the franchise timeline this show would be set. While it seems unlikely thatKate Beckinsalewould headline the show, it certainly would be possible that she could come aboard for a guest star orcameorole.

Len Wisemanis producingUnderworld 5, which has been given a October 21, 2016release date.Tobias Menziesand Lara Pulver take on the respective roles of a formidable new Lycan leader and a fiercely ambitious Vampire. AndCharles Danceagain plays Vampire elder Thomas. Rounding out the film’s stellar international cast are:James Faulkner, Peter Andersson, newcomer Clementine Nicholson,Bradley Jamesand Daisy Head.

It isn’t known ifLen Wisemanis eyeing the Underworld series for a broadcast or cable network, but at this point, it seems too early in the development stages for that conversation. Still, Syfy has found success with movie-to-TV adaptations like12 MonkeysandDominion, so that could be a potential home. Do you hope to see anUnderworldTV series?
