Action starVin Dieselhas quietly revealed the first footage from his upcoming (and long-awaited) sequel,Riddick 4. Officially titledRiddick: Furya, the sci-fi action follow-up will explore the mysterious origins of Diesel’s title character, who started life as a mysterious intergalactic convict way back in 2000’sPitch Black. The lore has since greatly expanded, withRiddick: Furyaexpected to bring back on of Diesel’s best characters for a cinematic epic.

While the footage doesn’t show too much (you can check it out below), it does find Diesel back in the black goggles and sporting the kind of look of repressed rage that the character is known for. Set to be written and directed once again by David Twohy alongside creators Jim and Ken Wheat, the sci-fi action sequel not only finds Diesel as the lead but also as a producer on the project. The World of Riddick Is Expanding…

First introduced more than two decades ago in the acclaimed sci-fi horror outingPitch Black, Riddick remains one ofVin Diesel’s most beloved characters and franchises. While the first movie tells an isolated story of a crew whose spaceship crash lands on a planet inhabited by nocturnal monsters, the sequel, 2004’sThe Chronicles of Riddick, vastly expands the series into an intergalactic sci-fi epic, and finds the character battling an empire hellbent on obliterating humanity known as the Necromongers.

Unlike its predecessor, the follow-up was met with largely negative reviews as well as being a disappointment at the box office. Taking this on board, the last audiences saw of Riddick was in 2013’sRiddick, which reverts the series back to its roots to tell another smaller, more insular tale as the character finds himself once again stranded on a merciless planet and evading a lethal group of mercenaries. Diesel has wanted to make a fourth outing ever since, with returning director David Twohy having previously teased how the sequelwill explore Riddick’s mysterious past.

“Our legion fans have demanded it for years, and now we’re finally ready to honor their call to action with Riddick: Furya. My collaboration with Vin and One Race has spanned 20 fruitful years, as together we’ve created three movies, two video games, an anime production, and motion comics for the internet. This new big-screen event will see a return to Riddick’s homeworld, where we finally get to explore Riddick’s genesis.”

With theFast and Furiousfranchise expected to come to an end withFast and Furious 11, which currently has a release window of 2026, Vin Diesel is looking to make the world of Riddick his next big blockbuster series. As well as returning as Richard B. Riddick in the upcoming sequel, the actor has also teasedbig plans for the future of theRiddickfranchisebeyond the fourth movie. “TheRiddickuniverse is expanding… so cool. Inspired,” he said back in September.
