Aside from a few key cast members who have been added forThe Walking Dead Companion Series: Cobalt, likeCliff CurtisandKim Dickens, there isn’t much we know about the show, except that it isset in Los Angeles. There have been rumors that the show is actually a prequel that takes place in the early days of the zombie apocalypse, but that has yet to be confirmed by AMC. Today,Nerdist’s Jessica Chobot has new details about the spinoff’s actual title, along with news that fans will be introduced to at least one character from the companion series inSeason 6ofThe Walking Dead. Here’s what she had to say below.

“Our sources tell us that one of the characters who will leadThe Walking Deadspinoff, will be appearing for a six-episode arc inSeason 6ofThe Walking Dead. They’ll cross paths with Team Rick in Georgia before presumably making their way towards the West Coast for the L.A.-based show. Now, while there is no air date set for the spinoff, here’s what we have heard. The show is rumored to be titledFear The Walking Dead, and allegedly takes place while Rick was in a coma, during the initial zombie plague outbreak. This means we’ll get to see how the world crumbled around society as the dead first began to walk the Earth.”

Ever sinceSeason 2,The Walking Deadhas split their seasons in half, with a seven or eight-episode chunk airing in the fall, with the back half airing the following winter. If these details are true, it’s possible that AMC will air the first half ofThe Walking Dead Season 6this fall, followed immediately by theFear The Walking Deadspinoff, which will take the flagship show’s place during its hiatus before returning for the back half ofSeason 6. If this is true, then it’s unclear how the spinoff character will be introduced in a six-episode arc, ifFear The Walking Deaddoes take place while Rick was in a coma, beforeThe Walking Dead Season 1started.

AMC could be employing a strategy similar to ABC, which usedMarvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.to help set upMarvel’s Agent Carter, which takes place several decades beforeMarvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D..
