When directorPaul Feig’s all-femaleGhostbustersreboot was first announced, there was speculation that this project would not have any connection to the originalGhostbusters franchise. It seems that is not the case now, with a newBoston Heraldreport revealing the beloved green ghostSlimerwill make an appearance, alongside starsKristen Wiig,Melissa McCarthy,Leslie JonesandKate McKinnon. Yesterday, we also reported thatKristen WiigandMelissa McCarthy’s characters have written a book claiming ghosts are real, setting up the main storyline of this remake. Today, we have more details on these two leads and what they’re actually up to.
Our report from yesterday revealed that, years after writing the book,Kristen Wiiglanded a prestigious teaching job at Columbia University. But her academic career comes to a screeching halt after word of her old book starts to spread across the campus. Pair this news with rumored details that surfaced back in January, it seemsKristen Wiigis playing Erin Gabler, who, according to the January report, is “an academic on the tenure track at Columbia.“Melissa McCarthyis likely playing Abby Bergman, who co-wrote the book with Erin. She now works as a professional ghost hunter with Jillian. And there is Patty, an MTA employee who discovers the main ghost, rounding out thenew Ghostbusters cast.Kristen Wiig’s Erin Gabler reunites with Abby Bergman after getting booted from her teaching job, hinting that there may have been a falling out years ago. It still isn’t known which of the two other charactersLeslie JonesandKate McKinnonare playing.

As far as Slimer goes, directorPaul Feigessentially confirmed his presence in theGhostbusters rebootwith a photo he posted on hisTwitteraccount yesterday, where the director is seen handling some of the green slime, along with the hashtag #slimetimestartstomorrow. With production currently under way, hopefully we’ll get to see photos from the set very soon. In the meantime, take a look atPaul Feig’s photo below, and stay tuned for more onGhostbusters.
