Within the next few years, 20th Century Fox’sX-Menuniverse will undergo some interesting changes. Later this year, fans will be introduced to the Merc With the Mouth with the studio’s R-ratedDeadpool, while, at the same time, theX-Menprequel trilogy will come to a close withX-Men: Apocalypse. Next year, fans will also bid farewell toHugh Jackman’s iconicWolverinecharacter with the highly-anticipatedWolverine 3. 20th Century Fox has set a July 26, 2025 release date, but we still don’t know when shooting will take place.Hugh Jackmanrecently spoke toColliderat the Sundance Film Festival, where he revealed that the script is complete.
“We have a script. A fullscript. To tell you, two days ago I got that the full finished-well, it’s not finished, but we’re getting super close-as you can see by the rate of my facial hair. That might give you a good clue that perhaps…yeah, it’s sooner rather than later. I have had six meals today already.”

Productionis scheduled to begin sometime this year, butHugh Jackmanrevealed that filming won’t start until theWolverine 3script is “perfect.” While the screenplay doesn’t seem to be perfect quite yet, it seems they are close, which could mean production may start very soon. Still, the actor didn’t know exactly when shooting may start, reiterating his desire to make the script absolutely perfect.
“I don’t have a firm date yet. My thing and I’ve told you and I’ve told everyone, it’s my last one, for me I want it to be perfect, so the moment I know it’s perfect, bang, we’ll go.”

What isn’t known quite yet is ifHugh Jackman’s beloved character will have a cameo appearance in this summer’sX-Men: Apocalypse. The actor took part in a cryptic exchange with directorBryan Singerat San Diego Comic Con last summer, where it was mentioned that the actor has been featured in everyX-Menmovie to date. Still, his presence as Wolverine still hasn’t been confirmed forX-Men: Apocalypse, so we’ll have to wait and see.
James Mangold(The Wolverine) is directingWolverine 3from a script byMichael Green, who is also writing theUntitled Blade Runner Projectand 20th Century Fox’sAlien: Covenant. Hopefully we’ll get more updates onWolverine 3very soon as the filmmakers get this script ready for production. Are you looking forward toHugh Jackman’s swan song asWolverine?
