Kevin Feigerecently teased the upcomingWonder ManDisney+ show, a new MCU project which some fans had completely forgotten about. The series was announced in 2022 and initially intended to be released in the 2023/24 TV period. However, several delays, including the joint WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes, meantWonder Man’s production was pushed back (with filming now ongoing).
Appearing onThe Official Marvel Podcast, Marvel Studios President, Kevin Feige, briefly addressed the new series.Wonder Manstars Yahya Abdul-Mateen IIas the titular character, a Hollywood actor who develops his own superpowers. Feige described the new series as “extremely different” on the podcast, but was careful not to reveal too much. Feige said:

“Marvel is The House of Ideas, it’s always been The House of Ideas, and I hope we’ll always be the House of Ideas. Which means, taking new storylines and new characters to new places. Sometimes they’ll hit and sometimes they won’t. When you stop trying is when you atrophy and the whole thing will fall in on itself. I think it’s trying to tell new and unique stories in different ways. We have a show coming up that we’ve talked very little about called Wonder Man, that I won’t talk about much today either except to say it’s extremely different than what we’ve done before.”
Wonder Man Will Be a Marvel Spotlight Series
Wonder Man
Earlier this year, it was confirmed thatWonder Manwill fall under the new Marvel Spotlight banner. The new brand of MCU shows (which gets its title from a Marvel anthology series from the 1980s) was created to give newer audiences an entry point into the MCU without any prior knowledge of the franchise. The Marvel Cinematic Universe has been running since 2008, and currently clocks in at 33 feature films, with various other Disney+ series, shorts, and animated projects. That’s a lot of back catalog to get through for someone who only wants to watch one show. Marvel Studios' Head of Streaming, Bard Winderbaum, described the need for Marvel Spotlight, saying:
“Marvel Spotlight gives us a platform to bring more grounded, character-driven stories to the screen, and in the case of Echo, focusing on street-level stakes over larger MCU continuity. Just like comics fans didn’t need to read Avengers or Fantastic Four to enjoy a Ghost Rider Spotlight comic, our audience doesn’t need to have seen other Marvel series to understand what’s happening in Maya’s story.”
