Let’s be honest, though; the obsession with following along those stories, trying to figure out who the murderer is or why crimes were committed, is more than real, and, well, Netflix knows that. While, at first glance, a season with only four episodes seems far too short, the immenseweight and traumaof each episode is already so much to digest that more wouldn’t even be possible. In the third episode of the Netflix hit seriesKilling For Custody, Eric shares his traumatizing and heartbreaking story of how he survived his ex-wife and her mother. Eric first met Mei, his slightly older but extremely kind colleague, at his job and immediately forged a friendship with her. Getting along really well, Mei introduced him to her daughter, Rosa, and the two hit it off right away, leading them to start a relationship in the early 2000s. Eric, who was always very shy and reserved when it came to women, finally thought he had found someone who wanted to spend their life with him. Everything seemed to be going well, and the two even ended up tying knots. However,during their honeymoon in Hawaii, Rosa turned violent during an argument and punched Eric.

Eric and Rosa led a very complicated relationship after they decided to split,their custody battletaking center stage. It was Rosa’s goal to have her daughter all to herself, which is why she tried everything to prevent Eric from seeing his child. She even made the extreme move oflying to Child Protective Services, stating that Eric sexually harassed his daughter, which kicked off an intense legal battle. However, Rosa failed to fool the court, as they immediately became aware of how she tried to deceive everyone. As a consequence, Eric almost had full custody, which was certainly a win for him, but at the same time, it was also the beginning of a hateful murder scheme.
Rosa and Mei didn’t accept the court’s decision, but instead of appealing it, they took the matter into their own hands.Their plan, which they called “Operation Custody,” was based on research they had conducted over a significant amount of time, and the goal of it was to frame Rosa’s estranged husband, Eric, for murder. The idea was to kill Eric’s grandmother, Selma, and then murder her husband, but make it appear asthough it was suicide, leaving a message stating that he couldn’t live with what he had done. The notes they wrote down regarding how to implement their plan were written in different handwriting, which clearly linked both women to the crimes.
While Rosa and Mei clearly carefully planned the murder of Selma and Eric, not everything worked according to plan. Selma’s boyfriend, who called her every day at the same time, became worried when she didn’t pick up the phone and sent two relatives to check up on her. Eric was also called, but when he entered the house, he didn’t find his grandmother. Instead, he found Rosa’s mother. Within seconds, he was suddenly attacked with a tazer by Rosa, who was hiding in a different room and was then beaten up by themother-daughter duo. The police were called as neighbors heard the altercation, and despite initial confusion, it quickly became clear that Rosa and Mei were the culprits.

Eric was lucky to get away with his life, but his grandmother had a different fate.When searching the property, the investigators discovered her lifeless body wrapped in a blanket and thrown into a bucket in the garden hut. It was later found out that Selma was, among many other things, strangled by Rosa and suffered numerous injuries. As a consequence, Rosa and Mei’s home was also searched, and the findings were shocking. Crossbows, throwing stars, chains, and many other items were found, clearly connecting them to the deadly attack.
Where Are Mei and Rosa From Worst Ex Ever Now?
Their deeds mark one of themost shocking stories inWorst Ex Ever, and it should come as no surprise that Mei and Rosa had to show up in front of a judge and receive a sentence. Considering the severity of their crimes,both women were sentenced to 25 years to life in prison. Mei was charged with premeditated attempted murder of Eric, and Rosa was additionally charged with first-degree murder of 91-year-old Selma. As of 2024,both mother and daughter are still serving time at the Central California Women’s Facility in Chowchilla.
Killing for Custodyshows that there are people out there who would go to great lengths to achieve their goal, no matter how wicked the crime is.
