Back in November, producer/screenwriterSimon Kinbergconfirmed that production on 20th Century Fox’sX-MenspinoffGambitwill begin sometime this spring, describing the movie as a “sexy heist thriller.“Channing Tatumis still set to star as the card-throwing title character, withLéa Seydouxportraying thefemale lead, Belladonna “Bella” Boudreaux. Today we have a new report from WGNO, which reveals that the movie will start production this March in New Orleans.

20th Century Fox previously issued an October 7, 2016release dateforGambit, putting it up against Warner Bros.‘The Accountant, Disney’sThe Girl on the Trainand Lionsgate’sMiddle School: The Worst Years of My Life. Production was originally set to begin onGambitlast fall, but the production schedule shifted after directorRupert Wyatt(The Gambler) dropped out in September. The production got back on track withDoug Liman(Edge of Tomorrow), but the studio still hasn’t issued a new release date forGambit.

If principal photography does in fact begin in March, it seems highly unlikely that the studio can still meet its October 7 release date. The studio already hasWolverine 3slated for release on July 24, 2025, which will markHugh Jackman’s final performance as the title character. It’s certainly possible thatGambitwill be pushed to a later 2017 date, but the studio hasn’t made an official announcement about the release date quite yet. Hopefully we’ll learn more about this highly-anticipated adventure once production gets under way.

Gambitwas first introduced on the big screen in 2009’sX-Men Origins: Wolverine.Taylor Kitschfirst played the New Orleans-based Mutant. The superhero has the power to manipulate kinetic energy, and often uses playing cards against his victims, throwing them and turning them into tiny bombs mid-air. He is also known for fighting with his Bo staff.

StarChanning Tatumwas on hand to present one of the awards at theGolden Globeslast night, and the Twitter accountSuperhero Feednoticed that the actor’s new hairstyle is quite reminiscent ofGambit’s comic book look. Take a look at the photo below of both the actor and a comic book image ofGambit, and stay tuned for more details asGambitgets ready to start production.
