WhenBatman v Superman: Dawn of Justicehits theaters next year, it will help launch Warner Bros. andDC Comics' massive superhero universe, which will includeSuicide Squad,Wonder Womanand the two-partJustice Leagueadventure, just to name a few. At the center of this sprawling universe isBatman v Superman: Dawn of JusticedirectorZack Snyder, who is also set to direct Justice League Part 1 andJustice League Part 2, while producing the rest of the movies. Some are starting to claim that “superhero fatigue” is already setting in, with directorSteven Spielbergrecently comparing superhero movies to Westerns, with the genre set to dry up eventually. During a new interview withYahoo! Movies,Zack Snyderwas asked how he felt aboutSteven Spielberg’s statement, revealing that he hopes his movies stand the test of time.

“He might not be wrong. I think it puts more pressure on us, the filmmakers, to not just crank outsuperhero moviesfor the sake of it. To me, the one thing I love working in theDC universeis thatSupermanandBatmanandWonder Womanare American mythology. It’s not about making a superhero, it’s a mythological universe that we live in. That I hope stands the test of time. They stood the test of time. That’s hopefully the sort of magic bullet. But who knows what audiences will want in the future.”

With 20th Century Fox’sFantastic Fourflopping at thebox office, andMarvel’sAnt-Manperforming below the studio’s typically-high standards, claims of “superhero fatigue” may not be far-fetched, but that notion will be put to the ultimate test over the next few years. It has long been rumored that the entire Justice League will be introduced inBatman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, but when asked if he’s worried about including too many superheroes, the director revealed he’s trying to stay “central” to the main heroes' mythology.

“I try and stay central. There’s something really fun about bringing the other characters in, but it’s really about staying central to the real core mythology is what I think the audience enjoys most.”

As with most projects ofBatman v Superman: Dawn of Justice’s stature, there have been countless amounts of rumors that have swirled around the project, ever since it was first announced at Comic-Con 2014. Aside from the footage we’ve seen in the first two trailers, very little about the story has been confirmed, which has lead to massive amounts of rumors. When asked if he had a favorite rumor, the director revealed that some rumors are actually close to the truth, while debunking a recent rumor that his son is playing Robin.

“There are so many, it’s insanity. It’s funny because every now and then someone will touch on something that’s kind of true, but the next thing they say makes me realize that they took a wild guess. They’ll say something and I’ll say ‘Oh snap, they must have seen the script.’ And then they’ll say, ‘And this happens!’ And then I’ll go, They have no idea what they’re talking about. It’s fun for everyone to speculate and take shots and think of things and attempt to sell it. There’s an industry in selling your guess. [People think], ‘I’m going to make a fake script and look like I read the real one.’ What length are you willing to go? There’s a rumor that my son is [playing] Robin. It’s not true. Now there are all these images of him that people have made where he’s dressed like Robin. It’s fun to hear and see them.”

It was recently announced thatZack Snyderis helping Doritos run their very last “Crash theSuper Bowl” ad campaign. The winner of this contest will not only win $1 million and have their ad air during the big game, but he or she will also get the opportunity to work withZack Snyderhimself, on the set of an undetermined DC superhero movie. The director confirmed that his “main focus” is directingBatman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, and then Justice League Part 1 andJustice League Part 2, while praising the contest for allowing young filmmakers to get a chance to step into the DC Universe.

“I’m staying with Batman V Superman and Justice League and Justice League 2 - those are my main responsibilities, as well as producing the other movies. That’s the main line. Once you get Justice League, you’re pretty deep in it. But like I was saying, not to be a selfless promoter of our program, what it shows is that we have this giant berth of opportunity with the DC movies now to I think find the opportunities for even young filmmakers to even get involved because there are so many projects.”
